The Human League played to a packed crowd in Cork last night. Murphy’s sponsored the event as part of their Little Big Nights Out promotion so there was plenty of the black stuff drunk. I still have my voucher if anyone wants it?

The band played most of their hits, mixing in songs I’ve never heard as I’ve never bought any of their albums. Still, it was surreal hearing them sing Don’t you want me and other songs that synonymous with 80′s music!

Yes girls, there’ll be a picture of Phil Oakley in a few days time …

I loved this show while it was broadcast and I even have the multi-CD compilation that came out a couple of years ago too.

Technology is ever changing. I don’t think I’ve recorded anything off the radio in years and the last time I did, I used the station’s Internet broadcast piped into mencoder to save it on my computer. No more cassettes.

Hands up those who have never used a cassette like this? I bet that number will grow and grow as the years go by…

A street entertainer plays his guitar on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork last month during the WW photowalk on the 18th.

I have the winners of the hotel rooms for next month’s photowalk. I picked them with the help of Alexa, Laughing Lion and Andrea who picked the first distinct numbers between 1 and 5. Thanks also to Laura, Elliot (might need rounding up?), Ron and Dena who also responded.

And, the winners are (cue drum roll, etc):
1. Pa Dineen
2. Kevin
3. Rudy

I better get on to Damien or Pat and tell them. They’ll probably have to get in touch with the winners next week!

The hippies were out in force in Bishop Lucey Park on Saturday as the new age folk made their presence felt at a “Peace in the Park” mini festival. I have to admit to being just a little cynical at events like these. Thankfully tarot readers or aura photographers were nowhere to be seen, although some guy was pontificating about what the “ordinary person didn’t know”, etc etc, and there was a Shell to Sea stall manned by a lonely girl clutching her baby. Even Frank was there and just as surprised as us by it. It wasn’t publicized at all.

Just behind the Onion Seller was a wigwam with people beating drums inside, and up at the other end near the fountain a stage was set up and music could be heard all over the park.

A comment on the Onion Seller post above makes the point that Bishop Lucey Park is not actually the same park as The Peace Park. I knew this park had been named after Bishop Lucey, but thought it was given the name, “Peace Park” as a nickname. This article clears things up. The Peace Park is on the Grand Parade, I presume down by the National Monument although there’s hardly any grass left there, if at all?

Ah, my wife Jacinta has the answer. It’s that patch of grass between South Mall and Grand Parade where there’s a monument to fallen soldiers (I think). It’s currently a building site which is why I had forgotten it.

A brass band played in front of Cork City Library today and I made this shot while waiting with Phil and his brother Christopher for Damien to appear.

We didn’t make it to Robodock in the end. I was busy and exhausted with a sick baby all morning and I think I’m lucky I managed to get into town at all! Nice to meet up with everyone, including Donal later on in The Newport.

Baby Adam is feeling much better after a lot of care and nursing. Doctor says he’ll be right as rain (and we get enough of that these days!) by Monday. Phew. Poor fella is really suffering.
