Grand Parade mooring post

Believe it or not this may have been a mooring post for boats in the 1700s. At the time the River Lee ran through the Grand Parade and boats were tied to this on the quayside. Now it’s a busy street.

It is reputed that this post was a cannon used in the Siege of Cork in 1690. Up until last year it sat on the corner of the pavement but as you can see here the new surface flattened everything out.

It’s been sitting there for as long as I remember, does anyone know anything more about it?

San Francisco Streets

A cyclist races across across an almost empty junction in San Francisco.

I just love the sign on top of the building. Totally out of place amid the beautiful architecture and detail of it’s resting place.

Bull’s Tavern

The logo on his shirt, "Bull’s Tavern" caught my eye as we waited on the sidewalk for the lights to change.

This is near Union Square in San Francisco. Check out the Macy’s sign! Shopping heaven for those so addicted.

Caroline Street ESB Station

This used to be an electricity switching station for the trams that traveled around Cork city and suburbs many years ago.

This building was the location for Stanley Super 800’s Gatecrashing video many month’s ago. I still have some super shots of the interior to post. I’ll eventually get around to it.. Some time!

Sometimes I just miss talking to you

A sticker on the back of a STOP sign reads, “Sometimes I just miss talking to you” and is signed “The 508″. A message of love for someone missing, or mindless graffiti? What makes the image for me is the couple walking by at the bottom of the frame. The sticker could be a speech bubble above their heads.

Shot on Oliver Plunkett Street a few month’s back while walking around Cork City.

Cork University Maternity Hospital opened March 31st

This was taken a few days after Adam was born and while an election campaign was in full swing. Outside Cork University Hospital a proud poster announced that Cork University Maternity Hospital opened on March 31st. I can’t remember if it did, or was it a week later, but some smart arse added “Despite the best efforts of the HSE” above the main message. An obvious reference to the bullying tactics employed to get midwifes to work in the new an under-staffed hospital.
