The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) is the world’s oldest futures and options exchange. It was established in 1848 and since 1930 has operated out of this building on 141 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago according to this Wikipedia page.

Possible Batman “The Dark Knight” spoilers ahead. Don’t read on if you’re going to watch the movie!

La Salle is the street directly in front of the building and the location of a scene in the latest Batman movie, “The Dark Knight”. Watch out for the statues and clock in the scene where Batman goes up against the Joker in his truck. It’s quite visible in the background. Moments later you can see the text, “Chicago’s finest …” in a shop window. I thought it was very sloppy of them not to hide those signs of the locality.

A young girls waves her Irish flag in the air after spotting part of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Cork approaching.

I shot several decent shots but it’s late and I’m tired. I was quite disappointed with the parade and left after half an hour. Like previous years there were huge gaps between some of the groups partaking in the parade.

It was strange to see the Special Olympics group striding up Patrick’s Street all alone with no other group in sight. They proudly showed off their medals and the crowd cheered and clapped for them. I’ll have a photo of them up here later in the week.

Two teenagers watch a seagull on the way back from Alcatraz Island in San Francisco. The US flag flutters in the same breeze that keeps the gull aloft, who no doubt is hoping for food from the boat full of tourists.

I’m going to be shooting at a fund raising night for Cope Foundation tonight. It’s an Eighties Night in the Ambassador Hotel here in Cork. It starts at 9:30pm, tickets are €12.50 on the door, and there’ll be spot prizes throughout the night! All are welcome, especially if you can get out your 80′s gear again. Time for big hair, leg warmers and shoulder pads?
If you’re there, watch out for me and say hi!

This was originally a portrait shot but I squared it off to emphasize the vertical and horizontal leading lines. The hydrant is much more prominent in the foreground too. The red rusty texture beloved of all photographers sets off the clean lines of the red stripes in the flag.

I took a photo of an even older flag several months ago. It belongs to my uncle and has only 46 stars!

How long ago was the United States made up of 46 states? According to this site it was 1908! This flag may date back to that time because it was brought back from there by my grandfather in 1929 or the early 1930′s.

I must say thanks to my Uncle Ray for bringing that flag along to a family get-together tonight!
