30 September 2009 - Cobh in Black and White

A dump of the b/w images I shot in Cobh over the weekend. It was a strictly “stroll around and do nothing” day (so sorry Conor for not calling in!) as Adam was being minded by my sister.

As I said a few days ago, I shot everything in black and white and I’m pleased with the results. From about the shots of the rope on I used RAW+Jpeg but I still prefer the b/w images.

Hope something here takes your fancy!

26 September 2009 - Cork Photowalk Gallery (Montenotte Edition)

Almost all my photos from today’s photowalk. Photos after the jump to preserve my bandwidth! I also uploaded them to this pix.ie album

15 September 2008 - Blarney Half Marathon 2008

The annual Blarney Half Marathon ran through the village and surrounding countryside yesterday. Here’s a gallery of shots I took while walking the dog. A light drizzle of rain soaked everyone, and hurried my steps home and back to the warmth. The weather was much nicer last year!

31 July 2008 - The Thieving Duck Photoshoot

Many moons ago I posted the infamous Thieving Duck that went viral when someone robbed it, added a funny story and emailed it around. Apparently it’s been seen all over the world which is kinda cool. It even made it to snopes.com too!

Thieving Duck

Anyway, I can finally reveal a few more shots from that photoshoot in Chicago. All the talk about the new Batman movie got me digging into my old Chicago photos and I found these shots I took on State Street way back in 2005.

9 June 2008 - Doneraile Park Gallery 2

What happens when Photobloggers go to Doneraile Park? You get lots of images, that’s what. Here’s the second installment of photos from our Doneraile Photowalk. Check out the first gallery for more photos of the day. A few of these will eventually make their way into full posts but that may take a while!

I think my favourite photo from the day is this one Katie took of us exploring dilapidated buildings next to the park. Looks very suspect!

9 June 2008 - Doneraile Park Gallery 1

Yesterday we went to Doneraile Park in Co. Cork for a photowalk. Weather was nice, if overcast and it was very warm so walking around the park was, errr, a walk in the park. Katie has already uploaded a few shots this morning! Looking forward to seeing more from the others.

This is my part 1 of my shots. There’s almost another 100 shots to upload, I think a gallery of 220 or so images might be a bit much ..

27 May 2008 - How to short circuit

Ever since I posted Short Circuit I’ve been meaning to post a small tutorial on how I did it. There were so many comments from people clamouring to know the secret of how I made traces of light dance around the picture frame.

Actually, nobody asked. Will was kind enough to suggest another title but otherwise it went unremarked. *sob* I’m going to tell you anyway.

The image is a long exposure shot, of at least 1 second and preferably 4 or 5 seconds. I simply stood in front of a construction site at night, lifted the camera, hit the shutter and rotated the camera around in my hands. Needless to say, I did not have the strap around my neck or I would have done myself damage!
At first I tried Aperture Priority mode, setting the aperture really small (big numbers, around F/22), but then I decided to do the obvious, and used Shutter Priority and simply set the speed(time) I wanted. Below are a few shots from that night, including the scene as it was on the night and some experimental shots as I practiced. The technique is really easy, but can create some really interesting and eye catching photos.

5 May 2008 - Blarney on May 5th, 2008

It’s a beautiful Bank Holiday Monday here and the village of Blarney is buzzing with locals and tourists. Meanwhile, I’m at home working. If you’re off today, enjoy the glorious weather!

1 May 2008 - Digging into the photo archive

I ran a photoblog on ocaoimh.org before I started inphotos.org, and I posted some photos to my blog at Holy Shmoly! too. Unfortunately the first site is no longer around, and the img tags were somehow stripped from many of my posts on ocaoimh.ie while I was running a development version of WordPress a few years ago. Now that WordPress has a native gallery function I think it’s time some of these old images saw the light of day again.

Most images were shot in 2004 and 2005. Some of the scenes photographed back then either look very different now, or have ceased to exist in the case of the petrol pump in Blackpool! Most of them would have been shot with my trusty Sony 717 I expect. Great camera.

(Oh great, the gallery is broken! Must fix later…)

24 April 2008 - Blarney on April 24, 2008

I had to get the car fixed today. A ball bearing was broken in one of the rear wheels and driving was like one of those modded cars with huge exhausts. Noisy and annoying. So, I took the car down to Blarney Auto Centre where they sorted it out this afternoon. I took the opportunity to get some exercise in by walking back home and took a few photos. Enjoy!
