The Christmas lights on Carey’s Lane shine brightly in this long exposure shot.

The exposure is so long that crowds of people walked past, some apologising, without evening showing up on the final image! The only person visible is a homeless guy sitting in a doorway. I love how the Christmas lights came out in this. f/22 does lovely things to points of light.

This was taken one evening while in town and I had a few moments to spare. Get out the camera, crouch down and put the wallet under the lens to point it up a bit. Perfectly still, without a tripod!

While I shot this I realised where this photo was taken! See the No Parking sign?

Adding a bit of humour ot the Midleton Food and Drink Festival, this princess was just on a break but kindly posed for the camera after I asked.

Sorry about the blown out detail on her hand - the sun was behind her so I had to fill in the shadows with flash. Unfortunately her hand was sunlit and the camera just couldn’t take it.

Sowan’s Organic Bread Mixes were a big hit with everyone who sampled their bread, including Jacinta. She bought a packet of the stuff and I’m going to sample the finished product this morning! This is their stall at the Midleton Food & Drink Festival.

Their website is sowanorganic.ie and I discovered this positive post about them from a WordPress.com user, Keith. It always gives me a tingly feeling whenever I come across those because of my involvement with WordPress.com.

The September issue of the Digital Journalist is just out. This picture just screams at me - the contrast between the normal living room and the huge cloud of one of the collapsing Twin Tower is alarming.

Late in the day, but I like these: Randy for you, a truck with a message, and Back from the dirty, photos by Chris Weeks of Paris Hilton and others at a party.

An apple stall at the Midleton Food and Drink Festival last weekend. It was a wet morning and when I saw the water glistening on the apples I just had to make this photo.

Technique: Photo was levels adjusted manually because the GIMP thought there was too much green in the image, it gave a blue tinge to the whites in the image. I then burned the scene and did the apples over a little more to really bring out the rain drops. Saturation increase of everything but the blue and cyan channels helps to warm up the image. Finally resize and unsharp mask to sharpen. (Was that useful? I’ll add this more often if it was!)

Thomas Tattan at the East Cork Camera Group stand in Midleton yesterday. They were participating in the Midleton Food and Drink Festival and had a great photo gallery in a quiet courtyard off the beaten track. A good crowd were milling about enjoying the photos and making purchases.

We got down early to the festival, before the main crowds and were able to enjoy it at our leisure. More photos throughout the week!

I like this: Mara crossing and Taken at a wedding and Some stop action frames

You can find out more about Flash Harry on their website.
Sorry if you’re on dialup, this may take a while to download!

Mick Flannery played to a sold out audience in the Spiegeltent last night. He has an amazing voice, he’s a great song writer and the audience were up in arms crying and shouting for encores at the end of the gig.

The Lynch Mob joined Mick Flannery on stage to the delight of the audience.

Harleys in Blarney

The 15th annual H.O.G. Rally took place this weekend in Killarney, Co. Kerry. 10,000 Harley Davidson riders were expected. For the last few days I’ve seen Harleys around Cork sporting flags from all over Europe.

Here are two of them on their way back, pictured in Blarney! Jacinta and I were going to the local shop when 2 couples riding on these beautiful bikes drove past. I had to grab my camera ask them to pose for a shot or two! For once I was in a photo because they invited us to sit on their bikes for a photo.

Phil - I hope you like the photos, I’ll send you on a couple of other shots too!

Sofa Burning
Bonfire night.. adding fuel to the fire
Fire Brigade arrive

It was Bonfire Night in Cork yesterday. It’s celebrated on St. John’s Eve and there have been bonfires lit in Cork for as long as I remember. Not all parts of the country celebrate the night, and I heard on the radio 2 days ago that there may be a by-law passed in Cork banning the lighting of bonfires that night because of the danger to people, property and the fire services.
Unfortunately each year the fire services are attacked with rocks and other weapons when they go to certain areas of the city.
