The Elysian, as it was in March 2008, still under construction while the Irish Economy economy fell apart around it.

Lifted to the Heavens

A piece of building equipment is raised high into the air by a construction crane. I presume it’s full of cement, but I know I wouldn’t want to be standing underneath, just in case. Another shot of the construction cranes I posted yesterday. I love the contrast of the black sky and cranes and the [...]

Three in the sky

I guess the number of high rise cranes we’ll see over our urban environment will decrease as the building industry collapses. Meanwhile there are plenty around. Here’s three I shot in the middle of Cork City from Emmett Place. At night they’re lit up which is when I shot short circuit. Mallow Camera Club had [...]

Highrise Construction Over Cork City Cranes still rise into the air, towering over everything else, even the Elysian Tower pictured on the right of this image. The Irish economy may be slowing down but there’s still plenty of life in the old dog yet! Happy new year! May 2008 be even better than 2007!

Construction cranes at night Cranes over the construction site at the old Guy and Company site make for a striking image at night. This was taken from the Tesco multi-storey car park, a few metres away from where I shot Clouds move at night. Yesterday we had to bring the car for a service so [...]

The Moonlit Shipyards The shipyards in Rushbrooke, just outside Cobh are still active although much quieter now than during their heyday. The cranes make for great photography against the moonlit sky. This was shot from across the River Lee in Passage last November. FRLinux asked about settings so here they are, including post-processing: Flickr’s exif [...]
