26 August 2009 - Glass Clouds
It’s odd sometimes when you’re traveling through the towns of Ireland and you come across the remnants of the Celtic Tiger, usually newly built and empty office buildings.
This is one such building, near the waterfront in the town of Kilrush in County Clare. It faces on to a broad street but all the other buildings are more traditional ones. This glass fronted edifice looked very empty on the day we walked past.
8 August 2009 - Rain on the River
Rain falls on a river in a town in County Clare while we were stuck in a traffic jam. I used to know what town this was taken in but now it’s a mystery. It did have a very distinctive walled off area right in the middle of the river though. Anyone recognise it?

It’s a long exposure shot, what you don’t see here are all the visitors milling about!
18 June 2009 - O’Brien’s Tower

17 June 2009 - Emergency at Kilkee BeachThe tower was built on the Cliffs of Moher in 1835 by local landlord Sir Cornellius O’Brien as an observation tower for the hundreds of Victorian tourists that frequented the cliffs during the time. On a clear day the view can extend as far as Loop Head at the southern tip of Clare and beyond to the mountains of Kerry. Looking north from O’Briens Tower, on clear days, you can see the Twelve Bens in Connemara (also known as the Twelve Pins) beyond Galway Bay, and typically the Aran Islands to the west.

The lifeboat at Kilkee is stored at the top of this ramp going down to the water at the beach. At low tide it’s quite a distance and the wide angle makes a great job of getting it all in!
Those two dots on the beach are my family!
