16 January 2009 - Push the Car!
A modified car is pushed down Pana by the driver’s friends and a helpful passerby. When the engine finally coughed into life the oversize exhaust pipe emitted a very loud roar and his friends jumped in and sped off.
My wife Jacinta passed her driving test today. She drove us to the test center in Wilton, and even though I did my test years ago I couldn’t help but feel nervous. I think everyone who steps inside that single story building probably feels the same.
Remember your driving test? I remember a bus broke down right in front of me that I had to overtake. When I was asked to reverse around a corner a learner driver appeared and proceeded to reverse around the same corner. Twice!
After the second go, my tester urged me, “Quick, get around the corner before he comes back!”
Luckily I passed.
PS. Will Knott is spending a Sunday in St. James Cancer Unit in Dublin. They’re going to hold a fundraiser. They’re still looking for volunteers to photograph the event so please get in touch if you can spare a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.
1 November 2008 - N0bama
I’d vote for the husky.
BarCamp Cork II was brilliant. I got my talk on WordPress and AJAX over and done with early on in the day, mingled, fixed @icedcoffee’s Tweet Tweet plugin and updated the Tweet Tweet plugin to support Twitter notification via O2 Ireland’s free webtexts. Thanks Enda for the u/p while I wrote the curl script!
14 September 2008 - Burned out car
A burned out car lies upside down next to the river in Inniscarra, Co Cork. I wonder if it’s still there?
13 September 2008 - Car bits in the water
Bits of a car that lay abandoned and burned out in Inniscarra next to the river.
5 September 2008 - And the rain keeps pouring
Rain has been pouring out of the heavens all day with little break. Here’s my neighbour’s car shot through the windscreen of my car this evening. Just back from acupuncture, need to shoot something not sharp to counter the needles I watched being put into my feet and hands, never mind the ones I didn’t see go into my neck, arms, hands, back and legs previously. at least 26 in all. Feel sluggish now.
Phil has amazing rain photos from a few days ago, too tired to link right now, sorry!
17 May 2008 - What happens after the oil runs out?
A car lies wrecked, burned out and upside down on the beach near the cemetery in Iniscarra where I shot a few “infra red” photos back in 2004. Is this what faces the world when the oil runs out? Abandoned cars and other vehicles left to rot and ruin scenic areas?
I drove past a week ago and it’s still there. Awful eyesore. Maybe I should ring the County Council?
2 December 2007 - The Lord Mayor’s carEach year the Lord Mayor of Cork is given a top of the range Ford car to drive. It’s always the first car registered in the new year, hence the XX-C-1 number plate.
Unfortunately for the Lord Mayor, they have to give it back when their annual term is over. Such a car is now in the possession of a taxi driver in Blarney so at least it’s still serving the public ..
22 October 2007 - St. Anne’s Church TowerThe Shandon bell tower of St. Anne’s Church is one of the most recognisable sights around Cork. Here it is viewed from the end of Academy Street by Patrick’s Street.
27 August 2007 - Expired MeterAn expired meter I spotted while we waited for a table to become free in a restaurant in San Francisco a few blocks from Union Square.
Photo has been "cross processed" using the Curves tool. I created an S curve on the red and green channels, and then applied a lomo plugin for good effect!
18 July 2007 - Blitz in CorkA modified car sits parked in front of the Carroll’s Quay car park in Cork. The distinctive logo on the wing reminds me of the Transformers.
Maybe the driver is a fan?
