Pumpkins are actually great (albeit slimy on the inside). We made an all-pumpkin dinner one year. I was skeptical, but a chef friend of mine made it turn out fantastic. Two of my favorites were the roasted pumpkins seeds with olive oil and rosemary and the pumpkin risotto. Good stuff!

I forgot to include in the post, I drove into the suburbs around Denver with Lenny and Eoin from Polldaddy and spotted what must have been at least 100 and probably more pumpkins on the lawn in front of a church.
Light was too bright, and the lawn was in shade so I didn't get a decent photo but a shot of the church with pumpkins in the foreground could have been great!

I think my wife and my son (who wants to be a chef when he grows up) have cooked an actual
pumpkin at least once. There are several other varieties of gourd or squash that we eat on a
somewhat-regular basis. Best thing to do with the big orange "halloween pumpkin" is roast the seeds.

If you buy your cans of processed pumpkin, and they happen to be Libby's brand, then they were canned
right in the middle of my home town: Morton, IL (about two blocks from where this was taken: http://www.flickr.com/photos/scottcoulter/1404015225/in/set-72157602075740635).

I eat pumpkins! I made a bath of pumpkin cupcakes on Sunday, but the issue I'm having is the quality of the pumpkins available in my area, they are all pretty crappy and a lot of them have mould on, so I'm not too happy about roasting any more of them - the rest will be carved.

Luckily however, I'm off to Arizona on Monday, so I'll be stocking up on as much tinned pumpkin purée as I can carry!

mission before thurs: find at least one pumpkin to photograph. So far I have seen a small segment of a pumpkin on the ground...

I don't think i've ever seen a pumpkin as big as these 'american pumpkins' either.
