James Joyce, forever forced to look upon the Spire on O’Connell Street Dublin. Here’s a humorous look at the names of the statues and monuments in Dublin. I had heard that the Spire was nicknamed the “Stiletto in the Ghetto”, but I hadn’t heard it called, “North Pole”!
Overhead wires destroy urban photography and this is no exception. I could have tried to clone it out but it’s notoriously difficult to clone out objects against a varying sky. Ah well.
I like this: self-portrait with 6×9 ultrawide pinhole camera
Still a great shot with the sun on the Spire like that. Nice work!

Just out of interest, why do you think the overhead wires destroy the shot? (IMO I don’t think they do at all!)

Thanks for commenting! Maybe I was a bit over the top describing the wire like that but overhead wires are the bane of a photographer’s life. I took a nice shot in Cobh on Sunday of the Cathedral there with a small dinghy in the foreground.. and a wire crossing the top third section of the photo! Grrr! Got another few shots without said wire and I was happy again! ![]()

Fantastic shot Donncha!
Took me about 40 seconds to actually notice Joyce’s face.I thought you were referring to a “day out” with someone called Joyce when you shot it!
Dublin suits you, you should take more photos up here ![]()
