While legally there is nothing stopping you taking photos of people in public space, sometimes it is better to ask permission. There was an old couple outside a shop and I asked if I could photograph them. They said they would rather not but were very appreciative that I asked them first. I had a chat with them after which was cut short when they saw another photographer across the street and they began shooing him away! :) On a separate note, I wonder how many people will be disapointed when they google "hot tasty Kevin"?! While taking photos in the english market last weekend, I had a butcher yelling at me because I took his photo while he was working, he threatened to take my camera off me!!
