Framing and mounting the prints
September 21st, 2007 by DonnchaRob Cater inspects my mounted images in his workshop in Kilbrittain, Co. Cork for Haydn’s Gallery in Kinsale. Haydn blogged about me and Ryan this morning. Our prints are now hanging in the gallery!
They are 58×43cm prints, are mounted on a raised plinth with a deep frame and all images are signed by the artist. That’s what I was doing in Rob’s workshop on Monday!
Haydn went to extra ordinary lengths to have these images printed to the highest standards. As he puts it himself,
An additional problem is I wanted to print at a very high standard. Courtesy of Hewlett Packard I eventually got to use their z3100 and z 6100 machines which print with 12 and 8 inks respectively. I also wanted to use heavy durable paper and Vivera inks which have a no-fade lifespan exceeding 150 years.
Haydn, it was worth the extra effort. The prints are gorgeous!

Well done. Got to get down there to view them. So the gallery prints and frames photos which is most unusual. At a guess: total cost per framed print: €120. Am I close?

€185 each I think, but that doesn’t leave much of a margin either when all other costs are taken into account. Right now we’re trying to figure out what the right price point is. We need a figure that will cover our costs first of all, and hopefully provide enough of a margin to make this worthwhile.
Check out Haydn’s post above for more info, and I left a comment there with a Yahoo Maps url pointed at the vicinity of the gallery!
