Long exposure photos are easy. You either choose Aperture priority mode or Shutter speed. I use Aperture as I can depend on a really deep depth of field.

I set the aperture to something like f/10 or f/22, sometimes set shooting mode to 2 second delay, place the camera on a nearby wall (or tripod but I never use a tripod) and compose. Then press the shutter button :)

For the shot above I under exposed by 1 stop because the camera was trying to expose for the dark river and sky.
