Under the L

Under the L

The L is the elevated train system in Chicago and many films have been filmed underneath it’s tracks, including some scenes in Batman, The Dark Knight. Here’s the L under Kimball on the brown line. I worked close by a few years ago!

The Western Star in Cork was a favourite haunt of UCC students for many a year but now it looks like it’ll be demolished! Looks like development has been on the cards for quite a while:

Ryanair’s bumpy landing

Ryanair's bumpy landing

Will Ryanair face a bumpy landing this year?

Shots taken at Cork Airport of a Ryanair flight coming in to land. There are two small cottages just down the road from where I stood with children playing in the garden of one. I guess you get used to the engine whine after a while.

Top up your phone by throwing it in the air and seeing where it lands. Or something.

An opportunistic shot I took in Blackpool Shopping Center of a van passing by. I think it’s an An Post van.

Disused and ancient petrol pump in McCarthy’s Garage, Schull. This is the third, and final image from this particular garage. If I could have gotten inside I’d have a lot more to show.

There’s an old garage a few miles from here in the middle of nowhere. They used to handle Japanese imports and sell petrol but now the pumps are silent and a guard dog barks from what I remember as a yard filled with old cars. Must dig up the shots I took that day.

PS. Check out Today is my gift to you by fellow Cork man, Fr James McSweeney. He married us 2 years ago and I’ve tried a few times to get him to use WordPress since! Nice job with the site, pity there’s no rss feed. Is there any way he could bolt one on easily? Looks like a Windows server.

A DHL van near Paul Street, Cork provided me with a nice excuse to try out the urban acid plugin again! This has been sitting on my computer for almost 2 years but I only recently worked on it. Glad I did too. Love that red streak coming out of the shadows!

Skyhawk

Skyhawk

Skyhawk, a boat moored in Kinsale harbour. Moored there for quite some time by the looks of things. It’s aptly named. It seems the local bird population have taken a liking to it and made it a stopping off point.

I didn’t go to the Marathon today. Adam was up until 10.30pm last night bawling and crying after the exciting day he had at a bbq. Parents – next time someone tells you, “ah sure, he’ll grow out of it”, or “he needs to meet more people”, you should .. well, I can’t repeat what I feel you should do, but make sure they know that children don’t like changes to their routine, that when they’re over stimulated during the day, the parents suffer that night or the following day. Empathy, that’s what people want.

Crosshaven Boats

Crosshaven Boats

In mid February we went down to Crosshaven and I took Adam and Oscar for a walk down the road past the boat yards. It was way too cold and windy though so I didn’t go too far. On the way back I looked up and this just jumped out at me!

Love how this came out.
