13 November 2009 - The Historic C.O.D Ranch
The Historic C.O.D Ranch outside Oracle in Arizona where Automattic held a meetup in January 2008. Winter in the desert is mostly pleasant, during the day. At night it was freezing!
22 September 2009 - The evolution of back pain
A small poster advertises a survey on back pain. It’s a 3 year programme and since this was taken in 2007 it’s nearing completion now!
Taken somewhere in San Francisco.
18 August 2009 - Growing Wild in the Biosphere
Inside Biosphere 2, Arizona is a complete ecosystem meant to keep a group of people alive for months on end. That project ended years ago but the building remains and it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area!
Just in case you didn’t see yesterday’s post, 3 hotel rooms going for free on the 25th of September if you’re going to the photowalk the following day! Just leave a comment if you can definitely go and want to be in with a chance to win.
I thought there might be a rush on this but, boy is it proving hard to give away such a good prize! I’ll just have to claim one of the rooms for myself!

San Francisco will be the gathering place for a large number of WordPress fans at the end of the month as they go to the 2009 San Francisco WordCamp. I won’t be there unfortunately but places are already in short supply, if not all sold out at this stage. It’s going to be a blast!
Here’s a shot I took in 2007 from outside our hotel near Union Square. Love the reflection of the building in the bonnet of the car and glad I got those tourists too!
16 December 2008 - Construction in Chicago
Construction work on the Trump Tower in 2005.
08 December 2008 - Look up at Marina City
Marina City, the round shaped buildings in Chicago that sit on the river make an imposing sight when viewed up close. Good thing there’s valet parking, you certainly wouldn’t want to be scared of heights driving around inside them!
07 December 2008 - Shoe Shopper Heaven
I’m reliably informed that many women enjoy the occasional trip to shoe shops and other establishments were garments and other finery may be purchased. Thankfully my wife isn’t one of them and hates shopping almost as much as I do. Nevertheless we found ourselves inside this shoe shop in Chicago so I decided to make the most of the moment and snap a few photos.
05 December 2008 - Chicago Spaces
Despite being a major city, or perhaps because of it, Chicago has plenty of open spaces and broad streets. I love this shot for it’s wide open space bordered by tall buildings.
If the photo looks slightly odd, that’s because I used the perspective tool, but never dragged it the other way..
30 November 2008 - Panaflex
When I originally took this photo in Chicago (on La Salle, near the CBOT) it was a snapshot of a film crew. I took a few more shots of the crew but I was intrigued by the camera. Panaflex, what’s the specs on that then? Turns out it’s a product of Panavision, you know, that name that’s in practically every American film’s credits? Interesting history too although how they consider that big lump small enough to be handheld is beyond me!
03 November 2008 - A Cabin in the Rockies
A small wooden cabin or hut sits in a car park near the houses Automattic stayed in at Breckenridge in Colorado. The original shot can be seen in my Flickr stream or in the Automattic group there. This version has been extensively dodged and burned to bring out the contrast between light and dark.
Late posting of today’s photo because of the camera club tonight. It was model shoot night and I got a few shots but I’m not very comfortable directing so I’m undecided as to how well the photos came out.
