Tullagh Cemetery at Sunset

Tullagh Cemetery at Sunset

Tullagh Cemetery in Baltimore, Co Cork, Ireland is just a field away from the excellent Casey’s Hotel where we spent the last week. I went down there one evening to shoot a couple of half capsized trawlers in the bay when I turned around and saw some of the headstones silhouetted against the setting sun. […]

How to (not) shoot a solar eclipse

I went searching and found a few pages describing how to shoot the sun during a solar eclipse. All warned against looking at the sun directly. So, I ignored all that advice and got out my 75-300mm lens and grabbed a couple of shots of the sun with a chunk bitten out of it by […]

Misty Morning Bird

What were you doing at 5:52am this bright Sunday morning? Fast asleep? Our little boy Adam had us up and about bright and early. Bleary eyed parents who read this will I’m sure agree that it’s a shame young kids don’t realise the weekend is for sleeping in. I would have missed this shot though […]

house-on-the-hill

House on the hill

A house with a striking red door overlooks a field with sheep in one corner and a feeding trough in the foreground. This was shot near Bantry in West Cork a few months ago and I just love the vast rolling grassy slope of the ground. Cork City Marathon is on Monday. It starts at […]

Great ball of flame

Sunrise over Blarney a few days ago. There was a thin layer of cloud on the horizon that nicely blocked out much of the light of the sun allowing me to capture this early morning sun. It’s amazing to think that the light we see takes 8 minutes to travel the immense distance between the […]

Guide Me

Guide Me, a boat left high and dry above the beach at Baile Na nGall in Co. Kerry. Declan from O’Learys Camera World rang this morning. My lens has arrived. I’ll go collect it tomorrow! Aperture ƒ/14 Camera Canon EOS 20D Focal length 10mm ISO 100 Shutter speed 1/500s

The rebel flag in Ballycotton

The Cork County colours fly on the quay at Ballycotton Harbour in Co. Cork in 2006. I’ve been looking at this image for so long I’m almost certain I must have uploaded it but it’s been sitting in my output folder for all this time! Aperture ƒ/14 Camera Canon EOS 20D Focal length 10mm ISO […]

A Rainbow over Cobh

A rainbow brightens up the dark clouds threatening Cobh in Co. Cork in late 2006. You can see Cobh Cathedral in the background, and I’d swear the boats in the foreground are still there in the same position all these years later .. Aperture ƒ/7.1 Camera Canon EOS 20D Focal length 10mm ISO 200 Shutter […]

Call of the evening

Call of the evening A bird atop the light outside my house calls into the glowing evening sky heralding the end of 2007. After walking Oscar I had to grab my camera and shoot the beautiful evening sky. The background was this colour, there’s no trickery here except a little vignetting and sharpening.

The Lough Daffodils

The Lough Daffodils We walked around The Lough and wandered over to the daffodils growing by the footpath at one of the lake. That’s Sean Murphy in the background as he preps some of his equipment to take a shot. Probably my last photo from the Lough Photowalk!

Donkey eyes staring at me

Donkey eyes staring at me The donkey knows everything. He stands in his field every day contemplating life. This is the same donkey I posted before in Baile na nGall, Co. Kerry. We passed that way last September and I didn’t see him so if you see a wandering donkey, tell him I said hi!

That after sun glow

The after sun glow The sun had just set over this stretch of the water in Cork Harbour near Monkstown and the sky had turned a beautiful orange and purple and red and golden. Much to the annoyance of my dog Oscar, I stopped and spent a good 10 minutes shooting this scene and basked […]

Soft golden sunset

Soft golden sunset Sunset over Garrettstown Beach. PS. spammers are using the inphotos.org domain to send spam again which is why this site was down for most of the day. You should see the incoming traffic graph because of all the bounced messages. I have now shut down Postfix, and redirecting email to through my […]

Shih Tzu on a sunset beach

Shih Tzu on a sunset beach Our Shih Tzu Oscar on Garrettstown Beach again. We forgot to bring a ball with us but Oscar went running after anything I threw. He never did catch the object. I guess there’s nothing quite like a tennis ball eh? I love the evening sun on him in this […]

The Blarney Cat

The Blarney Cat Next time you’re in Blarney sit down on the benches next to Super Valu. Wait a few minutes and this cat will probably appear, especially in warm weather!
