13 December 2008 - How to shoot a self portrait
How to shoot a self portrait

How do you shoot a self portrait?

  1. Find the nearest Christmas tree.
  2. Look for a nice reflective ball.
  3. Shoot!

Shot in “The Wilton Bar” this afternoon.

21 August 2008 - Sears Tower

Sears Tower is one of the famous landmarks of Chicago I photographed while in the city. Remarkably, despite the months I spent in the city, I never actually went to the top of the building. I almost did once, but turned back for some reason. Could have been the long line to get past security. Dunno.

Anyway, this is only the second shot of the building I’ve posted. The first, taken near one of the flagpoles pictured here was unusual and was fairly well received. This is a more traditional architecture shot, though I do like the flags waving in the wind!

Oh, my Canon 20D is still broken. On advice from Ryan, I’ll give Canon in the UK a ring, and I’m also on the look out for a Canon 40D. ac-foto in Germany sell the body only for €795 which seems to be the best price I’ve found so far. Prices in Ireland are around the €1,200 mark. Ouch. Where would you buy a DSLR? (that’ll ship to Ireland!)

Majestic Office Block

An old sign reflect in the windows of a new building, somewhere in Chicago.

11 April 2008 - Reflections of the city

Cork City Hall and the urban lighting on both sides of the River Lee are reflected in the water at night.

I took this back in October 2006 when the Elysian hadn’t reached it’s glorious present day height. I venture to say that a photo of this scene now would feature at least a part of the Elysian buildings blocking the sky in the top right of the photo.

04 February 2008 - That after sun glow

The sun had just set over this stretch of the water in Cork Harbour near Monkstown and the sky had turned a beautiful orange and purple and red and golden.

Much to the annoyance of my dog Oscar, I stopped and spent a good 10 minutes shooting this scene and basked in the beautiful colour.

24 January 2008 - Chains of property

Chains line the road outside the entrance to the private manor next to Blarney Castle.

25 December 2007 - Christmas Baubles

Christmas Baubles hang in Porter’s newsagent, Cork. Christmas decoration is everywhere but reflective surfaces present an opportunity to take a self portrait. Yes, that’s me reflected! :)

Hope you had a great Christmas Day. We went travelling and I must say it was the best Christmas Day in a long time. I think I must invest in a WII next year…

24 December 2007 - Sparkling Flowing Christmas Lights

Blue glowing and sparkling Christmas lights flow down from the roof of Benetton on Oliver Plunkett St. in Cork.

I loved the reflection in the car and had to take this shot. It was hand held and I’m quite sure I pumped up the ISO quite a bit to get a half-decent shutter speed. Resizing helps to hide and smooth out the noise!

18 August 2007 - Fitzgerald’s Park Reflection

Clouds in the sky reflect off the water of the pond in Fitzgerald’s Park in Cork.

22 February 2007 - Girl reflecting on bus

Waiting at the traffic lights, the camera can still see you, even if it’s not pointed in your direction. Those are the buildings of the Grand Parade in Cork behind her.
