22 August 2008 - Tall trees in Oracle
Tall trees in Oracle

These tall evergreens planted in front of a set of small houses in Oracle were almost gone before I saw them. The scene looked bizarre. Tall trees, tiny houses. I wonder who lives in them?

Here it is on Google Maps. Try the Street View, you’ll see two cars pulled up in front of the same house as in my photo. Spooky.

The rolling hills of the Irish countryside

People come from far and wide to see the beautiful Irish countryside and it’s no wonder. There’s such a wide range of different scenery that you could spend many a day discovering new beauty spots.

This was shot near Dunmanway in West Cork. If you look very carefully you can see the wind power generators on the horizon but what attracted me to the scene was the gently rolling hills and changing light. Really beautiful part of the country.

Pretty Yellow Flowers

Pretty yellow flowers bloom in late April in the grounds of the Westlodge Hotel we stayed in while on holiday in Bantry. Spring was late coming to these gardens so it was nice to see a splash of colour!

Electronic waste in the countryside

Last February we spent a weekend in Bantry where I made a couple of very nice shots when I drove into the hills surrounding the town. The area was so nice that I wandered up the road on foot a few yards for a better shot of this lone tree. I was disgusted to see the beige boxes of a PC and monitor lying half hidden in the tall grass of the bog.

Perhaps I should have climbed down and retrieved them but Adam was asleep in the car and we were miles from anywhere. I didn’t want to risk slipping and hurting myself. It’s such a shame those electronics weren’t recycled at the local dump. I wonder what Gardai would find if they looked at the drive in that PC. I wonder if they’d care?

Tomorrow – AJ tried booking Robodock tickets for himself but could only book for the 12 noon show. I thought we could pay at the entrance but obviously it’s popular and booked up. Maybe the bad weather will keep people away but I should be there before 3pm! Keep an eye on my Twitter account for updates!

18 June 2008 - Blarney Castle and River Martin

Blarney Castle and River Martin

The River Martin flows near Blarney Castle in Co. Cork on a cold December morning in 2005. The Castle grounds were quiet that day with hardly a soul about! Spencer Tunick would have been hardly known in the area at the time.

17 June 2008 - Where did all the naked people in Blarney go?

Spencer Tunick shot one of his “installations” in Blarney this morning. I don’t know if everyone congregated in the gardens in front of the Castle, or if it was behind but this is the view from the top of Blarney Castle so Spencer may have taken a shot from here.

Well done to everyone who showed up! Very brave souls. :)

PS. The Evening Echo ran with a wide angle shot of everyone. No doubt the rest of the papers will have similar photos in the next day or so!

27 April 2008 - A place to live in the trees
a place to live in the trees

I noticed this small hut while out walking one afternoon on the ranch in Arizon last January. Bit of a squeeze I bet!

Junk in the desert

I’m not sure what this metal object used to be, but it was sitting in the desert on the ranch in Arizona. I loved the contrasting textures and light and shadows so I had to shoot it!

05 April 2008 - Trees on the Marina

The trees along the Marina in Blackrock, Cork are bare at the this time of year but the sun shone today as if it was the height of Summer. It was lovely, even with the biting wind.

Shot from the grounds of Pairc Ui Chaoimh (no relation!) while out walking with my sister, my son Adam who slept quietly in his buggy, and my dog Oscar who loved the long walk.

01 April 2008 - Desert Tree

One of the many trees growing in the arid desert surrounding the ranch Automattic stayed in while in Arizona.
