No drinking on the street. This reminds me of an incident several years ago when I was in town with a group of friends on a Saturday night. This was before I started drinking, and my friends bought cans of beer in an off-license.
The guy behind the counter warned them the Guards were about watching for people drinking alcoholic beverages in public and they seemed to heed his warning until they got across the road and popped open their cans.

Sure enough, within 2 minutes a Garda was there! He took their names and addresses, and asked them to stop drinking, and of course gave them an awful fright. I followed a chastened group of lads to the pub. Don’t even know why they wanted to drink outside as the pub was just around the corner. Could have been the “poor student” in each of them trying to save money.

Not drinking was great of course. Cost me all of about 6 or 7 quid on a night out, and I could drive home too!

The National Monument, Grand Parade Cork was erected in 1906 to commemorate those who died in uprisings against the British in 1867 and 1798.

It’s one of the few parts of the Grand Parade that hasn’t changed much despite all the redevelopment of the city.

You’re in town and desperately looking for a parking place. Where do you go? All the on-street parking has either been removed because of road works or taken by everyone who went shopping at 9am. Just look up. There’s a multi storey carpark somewhere near you. Probably.

A child opens a rainbow coloured umbrella outside Cork City Library last Saturday. Rain threatened most of the day so it was a good idea to have an umbrella with you, just in case.

A brass band played in front of Cork City Library today and I made this shot while waiting with Phil and his brother Christopher for Damien to appear.

We didn’t make it to Robodock in the end. I was busy and exhausted with a sick baby all morning and I think I’m lucky I managed to get into town at all! Nice to meet up with everyone, including Donal later on in The Newport.

Baby Adam is feeling much better after a lot of care and nursing. Doctor says he’ll be right as rain (and we get enough of that these days!) by Monday. Phew. Poor fella is really suffering.

At first glance I thought this was a Honda 50 but closer inspection of the sticker reveals a “70″. There is more text that could be COB but if the Wikipedia page on the bike is right, it was probaby “CD” on it before it was ripped.

Shot on the Grand Parade, right next to the construction work in front of the library!

Evening sky over Cork City

Darkness descends on the City of Cork and the lights of the Grand Parade spill from the windows. In the background is St. Finbarr’s Cathedral and the rest of the urban environment heading out west.

This image is quite similar to another Grand Parade shot from about a month ago. This one isn’t quite as wide, and was created from one RAW image, shot after the sun had gone down.

Like yesterday’s shot of the landmarks this was also taken at the top of the Grand Parade car park!
