17 August 2007 - The house in the bushes

This is the side of the small gatehouse in Fitzgerald’s Park, Cork.

13 August 2007 - The Yellow Rose

A yellow rose in Fitzgerald’s Park in Cork. I made this photo a few weeks back and it had just rained, leaving nice little droplets of water on the delicate petals of the flower.

11 July 2007 - Capoeira boys

It was the boy’s turn to fight after the girls sparred and these guys were brilliant! As you can see, great fun was had by all!

10 July 2007 - Capoeira Girls

Two girls show off their Capoeira moves in Fitzgerald’s Park accompanied by music played on the berimbau and atabaque. The fighting is very exciting to watch as participants leap from the ground, and seem to defy gravity on occasion!

From the Wikipedia page on Capoeira:

Capoeira is a Brazilian fight-dance, game, and martial art created by enslaved Africans during the 19th Century Participants form a roda (circle) and take turns playing instruments, singing, and sparring in pairs in the centre of the circle.

09 July 2007 - Party in the park

The Capoeira Club on Douglas Street held a day out for the kids just over a week ago in Fitzgerald’s Park in Cork. Unfortunately we arrived just as everything was wrapping up but I got a couple of shots off.

There was a great party atmosphere. Parents were there with kids, people sitting around, chatting, singing and dancing, and even a couple of dogs including Oscar! Next time we’ll try to make it earlier. Thanks Sharon for telling me it was on! See Mel in the background?

Unfortunately the light wasn’t the best and with fast moving legs, arms and bodies I was never going to fully freeze the action. More to come over the next few days.

08 July 2007 - Pink Flowers

Pink flowers in Fitzgerald’s Park, Cork blaze with colour on a lovely Sunday afternoon. They’ve done a great job in the park where very nice layouts of flowers can be seen over by the museum. Presumably with the intention of avoiding the kids congregated at the other end of the park at the swings and slides!

A few days ago I blogged about Spencer Tunick and wondered aloud how he organised such large groups of naked people. Well, if you have Sky+ then check out “Sky Anytime” where they have Naked States, a documentary following him around from New York where he was arrested to Boston and elsewhere. I’ve only watched the first 20 minutes but it’s turned out to be an interesting look into Tunick’s life.

02 January 2007 - Mushrooms in the roots

Mushrooms grow from the roots of a tree in Fitzgerald’s Park, Cork. I just loved the colour and texture of the fungus, especially in the light of the sunset behind me.

28 November 2006 - An Autumn Leaf

I love the colours of nature at this time of year. The browns and yellows of falling vegetation make for a soft rich carpet of leaves that is pleasing to the eye. Unless of course it’s your job to clean them up, or after it rains!

This photo came third in the Mallow Camera Club Patterns Around Us competition, novice digital section. I took notes about the other winners but I don’t know how accurate they are. Congrats to David Lavery for all his winning images!
