This was taken in Blarney, the trail is from a high flying plane going west to the USA.

Arrangements for the photowalk on the 26th are surging ahead. Pat got in touch to say we can shoot from the roof of the Montenotte Hotel where we meet. The speedboat is organised (max 4 passengers but I won’t be going, stomach is still feeling fragile!) and then a complementary lunch for all photowalkers in the Boardwalk Bar & Grill around noon. See the photowalk post if you’re interested in staying in the hotel on the previous night.
Should be the best photowalk yet!

This is Mother Cat. Matriarch of the local cats. Her litter of kittens are growing up and make a daily appearance in our garden. They’re all a little wild though. The kitten’s dad, Patches, was the polar opposite. He was friendly to us humans and loved to be rubbed and scratched behind the ear. He adored my wife, and even put up with Adam chasing him around!

Unfortunately he disappeared a few weeks ago, on the very day my wife bought antibiotics for a bad cut on his leg. A few days later a neighbour reported seeing his remains on the back road. A car must have hit him.

I think the cats noticed his disappearance. Or it could just be us projecting our human thoughts and feelings on a sad situation. The kitten in the background of this photo is the spitting image of Patches. He’s also the most friendly, even coming up to me and eating from my hand on occasion. What d’you think? Is he the tiny kitten I photographed last May? His colouring looks very similar!

Anyway, they’re well cared for. The mother cat has come up to our back door and meowed to be fed, only to call her offspring when food has been put out. It’s great to see it!

Arachnophobia, the fear of spiders is a common one. Who really likes the creepy crawlies that come into your house and lurk in the corner? Look at those big fangs, and the long hairy legs!

This one was actually on my wall (I rotated the image 90 degrees) and just after I took the photo he dropped to the floor where I lost sight of him. He could still be here, in my office. Just waiting for me to .. What’s that???

I’m usually the one to remove them from our home actually. A glass and a thin magazine do the job really well. Don’t want to hurt them as they trap the flies and other nasties that buzz around the place.
One time at my last job I saw a fly get caught in a spider’s web. The spider darted out of a small hole in the window sill and grabbed the fly, still thrashing, and took it back to his lair. Dinner!

This is in honour of Scarecrow, a character in the world of Batman, who frightened and unsettled me last night while I was playing “Batman: Arkham Asylum”.

2 chicks are fed by a parent just outside the window of my home office here in Blarney.

The chicks have been there all evening and I just looked out again and they’re still there. Unfortunately the neighbour’s cat, Patches, saw them too and is keeping a vigil close by. We saw the parent bird literally dive bomb the cat several times but Patches won’t be moved.

A moment before this shot was taken the first chick was fed. I have a photo of that too but I thought this was the better one.

Is it common for young birds to huddle together on a wire in the shelter of a house? It troubles me that they might be in danger or injured and can’t fly away. Anyone know?
