A sign at the base of the short hill below the white pillar near Bantry in Co Cork warns of high cliffs. Unfortunately Adam was asleep in the car and I couldn’t venture any further so I’ll have to return some day to take photos of that pillar.

Bantry town is built on the hills surrounding a natural harbour so it’s a hard slog with a buggy if you want to go anywhere. Shot this from the road overlooking a few houses. You can see the local hospital in the background too I think.

Pobal ar Aire. Community on Alert. This is (was?) a scheme designed to help neighbourhoods help themselves by volunteering to keep an eye out for trouble makers or lawlessness. The local police are then informed.

It seems to work well, these signs are dotted all around the country, but in Bantry it looks like they’re protecting their beer..

Both Phil and Geraldine listed this blog in their “Arte y Pico” award list which gave me a warm glow because (other than the River Lee photos earlier in the week) comments have been far and few between here for quite a while.

Unfortunately I’m going to break the chain and not link to the Arte y Pico blog as it seems like nothing more than a link generating exercise by a clever blogger, or am I getting too cynical in my old age? I really do appreciate the sentiment however and listing your favourite bloggers is always a great way of showing your appreciation and starting a conversation. I have no hesitation in recommending you subscribe to both Phil and Geraldine’s blogs right this minute. They’re great photographers and you’ll enjoy their work!

This photo was taken in Bantry, Co. Cork a while back. I don’t actually recommend anyone get drunk to celebrate anything but the picture fit my buoyant mood. Can’t remember the last time I was drunk tbh. Probably before Adam was born methinks. Oh well, there goes the Irish stereotypes down the drain. I don’t even drink Guinness. I should be kicked out of the country!

Pretty yellow flowers bloom in late April in the grounds of the Westlodge Hotel we stayed in while on holiday in Bantry. Spring was late coming to these gardens so it was nice to see a splash of colour!
