Learning the ropes

Ropes tie up small boats in Bantry, Co Cork. The tide is very far out and many boats are stranded in the mud.

I love the texture of rope. Yummy.

Cork Harbour from Curabinny

This is the small quay at Currabinny across the water from Crosshaven in Cork Harbour.

As today was such an awful day with driving rain, sleet and ice I think a nice calm photo was in order. This was taken in April last year.

I’m travelling soon. I realised yesterday that I may not have my Sigma 10-20 lens to bring with me. Boo!

Cu Na Mara

The name of the vessel, “Cu Na Mara”, literally means "Hound of the Seas"!

Bigeoino says I made it to the front of “Cork Places”. Does anyone know what that is? Is it a magazine? I’m going to ask in Easons later today.

Maxol fuels the boats

Lysfoss heads into Cork

A large cargo ship of the Lys Line company called "Lysfoss" makes it’s way into Cork while a small fishing boat is tied to the pier in Cobh.

In the distance the harbour pilot can be seen heading for the small harbour in Cobh.

It’s fascinating what comes up on Google:
The Lysfoss went aground (pdf) in 2001. This page says a vessel of the same name was in dry dock and had repairs made on 2 separate occasions.

Watching the fish underwater in Lanzarote

A young boy watches fish swim past on a boat off the coast of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. The boat’s staff threw food overboard for the fish while the passengers went below decks to watch from the observation windows. As it was the start of the season in May, the boat was nowhere near full and everyone got a good look at the marine life swimming past.

This is the first picture I’ve posted from our honeymoon in Lanzarote last year. I took so many photos it’s daunting to look through them and pick out the ones I want to publish.

Boats at the quay

Small boats or dingies tied up at the pier in Ballycotton, Co. Cork.

I was looking straight down when I shot this and had to crop out a tiny bit off the bottom where the pier was. The tide was way out, I expect the owners of these small boats weren’t in a hurry to get out on the water.

Owen Higgins wasn’t very happy that he wasn’t nominated for the Irish Blog Awards. Treasa blogged about his rant, quoting bits that he has since removed. He later commented on Treasa’s post that he didn’t understand how the nomination process worked. Go show him some love by visiting his site. Some of his photos are quite good!

Many faces in the crowd

A crowd of Alcatraz sightseers prepares to disembark from the ferry back at San Francisco. From the expressions on a few faces I think they were wondering what that guy was doing with his camera held in the air!

I love the patterns in the roof and the contrast with the metal grill, you can’t take me anywhere that I won’t take a photo!
