Blue skies contrail and clouds

A wall of the Beamish and Crawford Brewery blocks the sun in this shot taken on South Main Street, Cork.

Blue skies are great for sun worshippers but photographers don’t like them. It’s always better to have some cloud or interest in the sky. The fluffier and more solid the better, as long as some blue sky can be seen.

I have to totally agree with your comment about blue skies. My wife loves them, I hate them not just for photos but not a sun worshipper either (im Irish not spanish). But it is lovely when you do get one of those weekends where the sun is out and clouds scatter the skies, Makes a difference then the grey or white skies we normally have over dublin the just always seem to overexpose.

The last few days have been wonderful, but the boring blue has been awful. *sigh*
I have a few nice shots from Ballycotton to post which have some great clouds, especially with the wide angle lens. It totally exagerates any lines or form in the sky!

In a bit of sad news, the local (Minneapolis, MN) distributor of Beamish has quit carrying it. I’m not sure how I’m going to survive without my vitamin B.

Dave – you’ll just have to visit Cork again, although don’t visit too soon, we’ve a baby on the way in a few days!

The polarizing effect is thanks to an overlay layer and a gradient! I really must get around to doing a small tutorial on that. It can be really effective.

I bet you’ll make it to the US before I get back to Cork. The rest of this year is already looking pretty busy for me. Then again, perhaps there will be a cheap airfare, and I’ll just have to adjust my schedule. I wonder how much Beamish I could send back to myself via FedEx.
