Blarney Castle Stairway

Posted on 14 December 2005

Climbing to the top of Blarney Castle requires a climb up steep stairs that get narrower and smaller as you reach the top. It’s not for the faint hearted or claustrophobic!

Wow! I remember going there when I was young and just being absolutely terrified of those steps! I don’t know exactly what it was, maybe claustrophobia or something like you say. You captured it really well, almost brings back those sick feelings :)

Wow…I can feel that, Donncha. What is the function of that stair? It isn’t the main stair, is it?

  • Donncha says:

This is the stairwell down from the top. There are two staircases, one for going up, the other for going down. On the way up, at the top of the castle the stairs is about half as wide, and the steps are *very* steep! It’s difficult and slow going.

It’s worth it though for the view, Matt is as mad about photography as I am and we both went mad taking shots of the surrounding countryside!

Glad for this info. We are 58 and 60 and going in Nov. 07! We will start “training” now for this trek. Thanks, Nancy

The number of stairs was 242, as I recall.
    Any answers?
