Oh you people :) this is a common giant house spider, nothing more nothing less. Contrary to popular belief they do not "come in from the cold" at the end of summer, they are always living in your house (in the walls etc.) The reason you only see them at this time is because the males are feeling a bit randy and set out on an adventure across your living room floor to find a mate. You can sometimes find a pair of males fighting, gladiator style, if you're really lucky.

They are also one of the fastest running spiders in known existence. I suppose this only adds to peoples fear. They don't cope very well with outside environments though, hence why putting them outside isn't as kind as you might think, but it certainly beats hammering the be-jaysus out of them with the heel of a shoe :)

That got me worried so I went searching and found the Wikipedia page on it. As it's main territory is in the US that rules out it appearing in Ireland, and the spider above is much bigger. Phew.

This may or may not be accurate, but this spider looks just like a "Brown Recluse." So, BEWARE!, the "Brown Recluse" is very poisonous!!

Skin? *shudder* That thing was huge, almost as big as the palm of my hands!

The new Batman game is great. You will love it! If I had more spare time I'd be playing it a lot more but alas real life gets in the way.

I was thinking that was skin until I read the description. Either way, nice job catching this.

By the way, how is that game? It looks good from what I've seen of it, but I'd rather hear from someone who's played it.
