31 - End of the Celtic Tiger
End of the Celtic Tiger

Construction. Ireland is too dependent on it but that’s old news now, but unspeakable just a year (or two) ago. Anyway, it’s the end of the boom, construction work has flatlined. The End is Nigh (and booted out the backdoor while we weren’t looking).

Shot in Youghal a few months back.

30 - Frozen Water
Frozen Water

Waves crashing on the beach at Couminole on Slea Head in County Kerry. Not all frozen water is cold.

29 - Where you’ll find Fianna Fail
Where you'll find Fianna Fail

In years to come they’ll talk about the Fianna Fail posters of 2009. This was the year when many party members chose to hide the name “Fianna Fail” on their posters. You’d have to go right up to them to see that damned name.
One suspects they’re probably embarrassed by their association with Fianna Fail, a name synonymous with dig outs for the pals, corruption and hospitality tents for builders. Not the general public’s favourite political force right now.

The Local and European Elections are in a week’s time. I don’t know who I’ll be voting for but it won’t be Brian Crowley. He’ll be returned anyway as he’s very popular and it’s his bad luck his poster was the only Fianna Fail one I spotted on my walk.

28 - Hillside Chains
hillside chains

Rusted chains lie on the ground near the walkway to the Mizen Head Lighthouse.

Just saw Star Trek. In my head it was the best thing since sliced bread but it was still a great film. Loved the little nods to the original series. Definitely worth going to see!

27 - Thatched Roof in Bunratty
thatched roof

A thatched roof on one of the cottages in Bunratty Folk Park, County Clare.

There’s one ugly open mine right next door but it’s well hidden. I had no idea it was there until I checked Google Maps a minute ago!

26 - House with a sea view
House with a sea view

For sale: house with a sea view on beautiful, scenic cliffs in West Cork. Perfect starter home.

No, not really. It’s only a tiny little hut above the cliffs at Mizen Head in County Cork.

25 - Market Avenue
Market Avenue

Market Avenue in the centre of Cork City is a tiny little street behind An Brog pub. You know, just outside the fish section of the English Market.

24 - MINI Awards
MINI Awards

An original MINI, with awards and plaques on it’s grill at Charles Fort near Kinsale last March.

23 - David Rowell & Co
David Rowell & Co

Do you know where Daly’s Bridge in Cork is? Sure you do. If you’ve lived in Cork you’ve probably walked across it even!

After one such excursion I snapped this photo to remind me to look up the printed name above. Turns out David Rowell & Co were a company, “that fabricated wrought iron and wire rope, built suspension footbridges, and structural steel frame buildings”. They traded from 1850 to 1970.
Among their accomplishments is Daly’s Bridge in Cork, or as it’s known locally, “the Shaky Bridge” near Fitzgerald’s Park.

So now you where Daly’s Bridge is!

22 - Oscar on the Shaky Bridge

Oscar, our Shih Tzu, on the Shaky Bridge just outside Fitzgerald’s Park in Cork. I think he prefers solid ground!
