The Swan’s Wings

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008 by Donncha

You really only appreciate how large and imposing a is when they rear up out of the and spread their magnificent wings. While at on Sunday there were a number of fights between . Guess it’s that time of the year again, eh?

The were fairly tame towards us humans, and allowed us to shoot quite closely, but I’ve had run ins with swans before and I’m always suspicious of them!

Katie caught me as I lay on the ground to get a shot of Church. Embarrassed? Me? Never, I’ve been in many other more compromising situations just to get a shot!

Ryan posted a whole set of from the day and Kevin has posted his first shot.

That bread is mine!

Monday, March 10th, 2008 by Donncha

A heron swoops in on a bunch of greedy gulls at yesterday!

For more pictures, check out Katie’s set and Will’s photos!

In retrospect, we were very lucky with the weather for the photowalk. Just after I got home the downpour started and 60mph winds ravaged the south of the country!

I was going to upload a bunch of the photowalk shots today but I’ll let them trickle in and then post the remainer on Friday.

The Lough Photowalkers

Sunday, March 9th, 2008 by Donncha

We had a great day today. 11 showed up at in Glasheen today for the photowalk. Pictured above are some of us. Unfortunately Patrick and Amy, and then Brendan left earlier. Thank you all for taking the time and making the effort to come. It was freezing cold and windy and it would have been so much easier to sit inside with a good book or in front of the telly!

From left to right: Sean, Kevin, Katie, Will, Donal, Sandy, Ryan and that’s me Donncha kneeling down in front. Ryan & Sandy - what’s your dog’s name again?

We stayed at the south end of the most of the time, probably because there was most activity there. I got plenty of shots of , ducks, herons and small strange black with a white mark. Even got a few shots of fighting! You can really only appreciate the size of these when they rise out of the air and spread their wings! Thankfully they’re very tame.

After about an hour we headed off to Church where we were filmed on CCTV taking shots of the church exterior. I wonder what the parish priest will think if he reviews those tapes in the morning. Anyway, it was getting late, I set my camera on a post, took the above shot, and afterwards myself, Kevin Will and Donal retired to The Hawthorn for some light refreshment.

If you post any can you tag them “”? You can subscribe to the feed on the Flickr tag page or this Google Blogsearch query to see what others have posted from the day. (Google hasn’t picked up on the tag just yet.)

I had a quick look through my shots, I took 199, and there’s a couple of good ones.

Suggestions for the next photowalk? Fota perhaps? Maybe Doneraile Park?

Charity Daffodils

Friday, March 7th, 2008 by Donncha

Here are the my wife picked up when she gave a nice crisp €50 note to the collector in this afternoon.

A few days ago I offered to give the proceeds from the sale of a photo to plus €50 of my own money/. Nobody splashed out on a print unfortunately.

Well done to Robert who braved the elements to collect today!

Old farm building in ruins

Thursday, March 6th, 2008 by Donncha

Out in the wilds of Co , to the north of I found an old deserted farm. The house looked like it had been empty for some time and some of the out buildings were in worse repair.

Don’t forget the photowalk on Sunday!

Daffodil Day

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 by Donncha

Day is fast approaching on Friday so I thought a photo of these gorgeous was appropriate.

Day is when cancer charities all over the world raise a large portion of their funds by selling . If you see an official seller please support a good cause and give generously.

I gave away a Daffodil Day header image last year on my blog. Actually, I’m still using it since then as my blog’s banner so I’m rather pleased with it!

Buy this image before Friday and you’ll support
Day is next Friday. I’ve just started selling this image of daffodils on rebubble.com. If I make any sales before or on Friday I’ll give any profit I make to The Irish Cancer Society.

Red Bubble is a business and charge a base price on every print sold. I make a few Euro from each sale but no matter how many or how few prints I sell I’ll add 50 Euro to whatever profit is there. Even if I sell no prints (which I admit is quite likely), the collector in will get a nice crisp 50 Euro note straight out of the ATM at lunch time on Friday.

If you think this is just a ploy to make some photo sales, then put your money where your mouth is and give generously to a Day collector on Friday. If they’re not collecting in your area, I’m sure some worthwhile is!
